Traditional Windows to Refurbished London House

The requirement

To replace and replicate over 30 glazed units to this London Townhouse which had all been severely damaged. Several hinged internal side shutters were required to the lower street-facing windows.

The out come

A complete transformation which helped restore the property to it’s former glory and encapsulated the historic beauty and craftsmanship of this period townhouse.

How we made it

The existing windows/doors were removed to take accurate measurements of the opening, and to take sections of each profile for replication where possible. The existing openings were boarded over temporarily to provide security and weatherproofing. All frames were constructed from Oak, which was planned and carved to match the exact dimensions and profiles of the original window. Window dividers profiled to match that of the original. The hinged shutters were copied over to new oak, with the inset panels and surrounding profiles matched to the original. All the frames were primed and painted ahead of installation. Bespoke glass panels were formed and implemented between the dividers. Both the frames and the glazing were formed using traditional techniques, but with modern methods and materials to ensure a better thermal capability. The original iron mongery was not present, and so heritage door-furniture was sourced and installed throughout.
